#2892, "That time of year again"

Time to think about class placements for next year again. This year I had two in the same class and one in her own class. DD who was alone had asked to be in a different class than her sister and brother (mostly her sister) and I agreed because of their personalities.
Lately it's been so busy I haven't really talked to them about it but suppose I need to make some time to get their feelings on next year's classes.
The school is pushing to have all of them in different classes but I really like having 2 instead of 3 teachers/classes to try to interact with. I'm a bit afraid if I don't put the girls back together in the next year or 2 that they will dread sharing a class when it happens in middle or high school.

Thinking I may set up a meeting to discuss it this year. Just wondered who you have included in this sort of meeting in the past. Just their teachers? Pricipal or VP too? What about specialists like Ds's SLP?

Thanks,

Andi

I never understood why some parents get such grief with their requests to have their kids all in the same class. If parents crave such an arrangement, why do some schools push the opposite?

As a former teacher, I always tried my best to meet the parents' requests. It just made life easier and everyone happy! LOL!

Set up a meeting. It certainly can't hurt and you'll have an opportunity to share your thoughts and listen to what teachers have to offer.

I wasn't really hellbent on either scenario for next year. Our girls said they'd like to be together in the same room and the next minute, they wanted to be in their own classrooms. And I kind of took on the same attitude.

We're lucky in that next year, there are 3 classrooms, but they all switch classes and get to move around. They also work closely so I'm hoping the teachers are all on the same to make life easier for me.

And to answer your last question, we informally talked with the first year teachers and the principal.

Lisa

Before Kindergarten, we met with the principal and had a conversation with him. He was not excited to have all 4 of mine in the same class, but agreed to a 2/2 split. HE was under the impression that we would then split them into 4 classes after that. At the end of Kindergarten, we had another meeting (he met with the teachers seperately prior to our meeting) and discussed teachers and the fact that I did not want them split. This we we had an informal meeting after bus duty (I was subbing that day) and just confirmed that I wanted them to stay the way they were. We are combining 2 schools for next year, so right now, no one knows who will be teaching where, that is a conversation for later.
