#2923, "PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR OPINION GOOD OR BAD"

Hi, Ok here goes, If you have a 2nd grader and he is at the top of his testing the teacher said he is a leader not a follower then he starts not listening in class and it gets to a point where he tells a student to eat a crayon and she eats half do you think it's a big enough deal to call his parents in???

If it were my child, I would want the teacher to call me and talk to me. Seems to me if there is a big shift in behavior, there is a need to figure it out.

That' what I was trying to talk to the teacher about. He just lost his grandpa. I told the teacher maybe this is his way of dealing with it... She didn't think so... She said that he knows better and that he doesn't listen to her anymore. He got in trouble for it at home.. We talked about it. I don't know what else to do.

Thank you for your advice

If it were my kid, I would want to know. Good, or bad, I always like it when the teachers communicate with me because my boys tell me NOTHING!

Did the teacher say what she thought the problem could be, or have a plan as to what should be done about it? I would be pretty upset to be called in because of a problem with one of my kids, and for the school to not be working on a plan as to how to resolve the problem.

Good luck.

I have 11 year old sixth graders and can report that without exception, the time period between Spring Break and the end of the year is tough - testing, Spring Fever, boredom, structure and schedule are turned upside down with end of year events in and out of school, etc. Not listening sounds typical, telling a fellow second grader to eat a crayon sounds about right, her eating it is questionable...

From what you've described, it's a "John is having trouble listening and following directions this week and he's now trying to get his classmates to join in his fun - please help me reinforce the inportance of maintaining good behavior at school through the end of the year."

Robin
