#2933, "next year in school"

Wow, I can't believe school is almost over. This year (2nd grade) has been tough. When you look at your school do you like what you see, is your principle good or not so good, how are the teachers in each grade, how are the children in your childs class, how are the parents? The reason why I ask is because we are thinking of putting our 3 into Private school. Reason I don't like how the principle made me feel when we talked about having 2 in one class and 1 in another, my daughter is allways complaining about her class being loud there are many things so I just want to get a feel of other schools. Also in 3rd grade there are 5 classes but only 2 good teachers, how do you deal with that??

I am sorry you had to deal with that. In Australia it is a known fact (as far as I know) that it is the parents choice if multiples are split up or not. Teachers can state reasons for separation but it is in the end the parents dicision. My 3 are in 1st year and I did not want it over my head in the school holidays (in January here) so I wrote a letter simply stating my preference. Got called into school, with a "thats fine". I get bothered when I read that īts school policy to separate twins" when (here) it simply is not.
best wishes in 3rd Grade.
regards,
Oz

I think public or private, you as the parent have to make your presence known by volunteering and keeping the lines of communication open.

Any school is going to have their stellar teachers and their mediocre teachers.

It's how you deal with issues that crop up and concern you, KWIM?

For us, it was easy to split our girls up because there are three classes for each grade.

But. If I didn't want them split, you can be sure I wouldn't have been passive about my request.

I'm impressed with our principal because she keeps an open door policy and avoids a lot of misunderstandings by holding informal meetings with parents to discuss new developments, changes, etc. within the school.

Good luck as you make your decision. Take a tour with schools that you're interested in and that can really help you get a feel for the principal and teachers.

Our school is small and the last two years we've had two in one class and one in the other. There are only two classrooms per grade. The girls and I have really liked this arrangement so far. One feels more comfortable with a sister in her class and the other two have taken turns having their own class. So far so good. I'd really like to have all three of them together next year. We'll see how that goes over with the principal and my girls Good luck next year!
