#2971, "polo shirts for school uniforms"

The girls will likely be starting Kindergarten next year at a school that has a uniform. I would like to buy some of the polo shirts ahead of time during sales. Can anyone clue me in as to which ones are good buys (both in quality and price), and which ones to stay away from.

Thanks

Susan

Check with the school before you buy because they might have brand specific requirements. If not, Lands End has the best quality and sales prices.

I agree to check for requirements but frankly we use whatever is cheap. Wal-Mart, Target, Academy. I just gave away 15 shirts that have been used for several years - we switched schools and needed a new color. The only ones that ripped had been through older siblings as well.

The ones we got at the uniform shop, with the logo on, cost twice as much and were much thinner material that pilled up. So we quit buying those (we don't have to use the logo) and went with the plain ones.

I agree that the Land's End polos hold up the best. Wait for the sales, definitely. Also, see if your school participates in their reward program - that way a % of your sale will go back to your kids' school. And they do embroider school logos - again, wait for the promo, then it only costs 1 cent extra.
Old Navy has great sales on polos but they shrink and the colors fade. We get about 6 months of decent use out of them, after that they really need to be tossed. Gap polos hold up a little better but are also pricier...

I prefer Land's End also! They stay cleaner and brighter (and ours are white)! I hang them right out of the dryer so they don't require ironing.
