#378, "Monday Updates 2/9"

Okay, so oldest DS got a case of ringworm on the back of his head a couple of weeks ago. Went to the Doc who gave us an antifungal for it. It was clearing up, but he scratched it and it got infected now. So back to the Doc on Friday and now we are on antibiotics. I took him to the little walk in clinic instead of his Ped for this, so she suggested taking him into his Ped today to make sure they don't want to lance and drain it. Well into the Ped we go this morning, and no lancing, but they're concerned he might have MRSA, which ia an antibiotic resistent form of staph. Great! They took a sample but it'll be 48 hours before we hear the results. So much fun. On top of it the school has the most ridiculous rules regarding medications. He has to take his meds at lunch time and I have two choices either have the doc fax in a letter stating he should take it or bring it in each day and give it to him myself. Also, he can't bring the medication to school and they won't keep it overnight, so I have to physically bring it to the school each day. Thankfully it's just for a few more days, but what a pain in the butt. I feel for parents whose kids take meds on a regular basis.
DH left for Calgary on the spur of the moment last Thursday and I'm not sure when he'll be back. Why is he always gone when I have something like this pop up? LOL, he has a knack for it.

1. What is your one addiction, the one thing you do, eat, etc every day? Coffee!

2. What is the last good book your read? I really liked the first three books of the Twilight series. Easy reads and they kept me interested. I am in the middle of the fourth and I cannot say that I am that impressed with it so far.

3. What is your favorite sport? Softball

4. What's your next vacation spot? We are hoping to go to Punta Cana again next winter for our 20th anniversary.

5. What do you think your next big purchase will be (over $500)? Nothing planned, but our fridge is almost 20yo and will probably take a crap any day now!

Kim,

So sorry about the infection. And for it to be on his poor head! Awful... Let's hope it is negative for MRSA.

The medication rules for your school sound like the same as at our school, as near as I can make out because they are pretty complicated.

But lay out the rules for your Ped and see if they can't give you a prescription that won't involve treatment at school. A different dosage or something that gets given at intervals where doing it at school does not need to happen. It's worth a try.

1. addicted to COFFEE also
2. book - Liking TEAM of RIVALS (this year is Lincoln's 200th B-day!!)and Postville
3. no sports
4. no vacation
5. just replaced washer and dryer and PC so hopefully NOTHING.

Nancy,

Thanks for the thoughts on DS head. It is getting better, less inflamed and reducing in size. It's just easier for me to take him the pill at lunch time for the next 2 days then deal with getting everything faxed in. I have to physically take the pill in anyway, so I might as well give it to him myself too.

3. What is your favorite sport?
