When does everyone head back? We start on Aug. 19th, just a little over a month now.

Also, has anyone started school supply shopping? I compiled my entire list and found I had 143 items on it (lots of duplicates, but still). I've been in Canada for the past month and will be heading home next week and need to start getting on this when I get back.

We will start on the 19th too. From the school's website, it looks like we don't need to buy many supplies. Hopefully, I will know more when they get their kindy packet in the mail.

The school secretary called me last week to let me know that they had been mailed out but that she ran out of copies. Since I had 3 kids she figured she could wait on mine so she could just make one phone call explaining why the packet was later than everyone elses.....excuse me, but since I have 3 to get ready maybe I would like to have more time rather than less time than everyone else to prepare......thanks madame secretary.
(I'm still waiting for it to get here.)

Hey, Andi, why not call her back and suggest (certainly not tongue-in-cheek, hahahaha) that since you have 3 kids and it will only be one reading, that she could simply read the list to you over the telephone -- reminding her that you have still not received the list and that it will take a lot more coordination for you to compile the supplies... Or, why not ask her to e-mail the list to you?

I do think it is pretty foolish for her to have admitted to how she prioritized things -- but, that makes it even more important that you find a very friendly way of pointing out to her that you have 3 times the struggle in pulling things together. Otherwise, she could simply use this approach on you every time.

Cat, you're right. This may be setting a very bad precedent. I told DH last night that I hadn't gotten the mailing yet and he was livid. He decided that it might be catastrophic...we'll get the worst teacher since everyone else is probably working on changing class assignments right now and that they may have not even put the kids together. I'm trying not to panic, but must admit I'm a bit worried. Trying to tell myself that the kids will be fine no matter what. Ohhhhhhhh I'm mad now thinking about it. Not sure whether to call today or tomorrow to say we've not gotten it. She said early this week but was that for her to mail it or me to get it. UGH!

You could have also asked her to only send you one packet, since the material will be the same in all three. Then she would have freed up two packets for others. I get three of everything from the school and throw out so much of it, that wish they would only send me one.

I am finally sitting down to the computer again and figured I would update on the mailing I complained about earlier. It finally came on Thursday (not exactly "early in the week"). There really wasn't too much information to it. We will have an orientation of sorts at the city library Aug. 4th where the kids will be able to meet their teachers and each other. Hopefully we'll get supply lists then.

We did find out that they put my trio in the same class. That was what we were sweating the most. It would have been quite a mess to figure out how to change them to the same class a week after everyone else had gotten their teachers switched. There are 4 classes of about 15 students each. DS told me this morning that he will really miss me when he's at school so it's probably good he will at least be near his sisters.

There was also a cute sort of advent calendar for each of them. (this might be what they ran low on) They open a window every day for the last 2 weeks before school starts. Beth is already asking how many days until kindy starts. Hope they all enjoy it.

Oh yes...school was suppose to start Thur but it has been postponed until Tues. I am the teacher so I can do that. Technically I started shopping for this school years stuff in May when they had a huge convention for school materials and supplies. But I did pick up some compositions books (color coded), tape (color coded to match notebooks so they will keep their sticky fingers off of my tape), and glue sticks. I really think we're set for the year but I am all about stocking up.

Kmart was where I shopped today. Wal Mart was practically giving away spiral notebooks last week?? I didn't make it so I am not sure when the sell ends.

I love the beginning of the school year.

My kids start kindergarten in 50 days. September 3rd. I can't decide if I am excited or not.

The school told me there is nothing I need to buy for supplies, just a back pack. Yippie!!

My girls start school August 24th. I've bought composition books, scissors, and a few bottles of glue and crayons. Now that the triplet are starting 3rd grade, they don't need as many supplies as they used to in the lower grades. My oldest dd is starting middle school in another school district, and I don't know yet which supplies she'll need. All I know for certain is that we need to get her a violin since she's signed up to play that instrument. -- Gloria

We start on August 10 -- yikes. What happened to kids having the summer off??

Thanks for the heads-up. I guess I'd better go on-line and see if there's a list of supplies... Man. Just when I get ready to party for the summer.

August 25!!!!!!!!

Have my spreadsheet made and ready to keep handy in the van so I can incorporate picking up supplies while I'm out and about.

I only need to buy 168 yellow #2 pencils.

I just re-read that. I have many many more items on the list. Some for just one kid, some for 4 kids, and some for 5. But most ridiculous quantity is all those pencils. At least they aren't making me sharpen them.

Missed the 1 cent pencil packages at Staples (sale was Sun - Wed), but I'm sure it'll be that somewhere again.

LOL, you got me thinking so I went and did the math, here's the tally...

#2 presharpened pencils - 336
Colored pencils - 84
Crayons - 192
Composition book pages - 1500
Glue sticks - 30
Spiral notebook pages - 1200

LOL it's like one of the Visa commercials

Priceless, watching them all get on the bus knowing you now have 3 hours of quiet at home...

We start August 25th!

It hasn't even hit me yet that next year my 4 kids will be in 1 school...and not 3 (like the past 2 years!!).

My trio gets out at 11:30 and my 3rd grader will get out at 1:55, but drop off at the same time!!

I've gotten all the uniform stuff for all girls (hand me downs, from another triplet mom, etc.), but have to buy my son his uniforms still.

I'm getting all the kids new backpacks and will wait for school supplies until I get a list during the first week!!

Reading this post kinda got a tear in my eye...it's only a little more than a month away!! OMG...Kindergarten?!?!

We start Aug 11 (Just 1 hour to meet the teacher).

Then Aug 12--all day--7:45-2:35!!! Andi I feel your pain!

No school supplies here because I had to write a check for $500 (yup, that's right, $500) for all 3 to cover school supplies. I did this back in April when we registered.

This is for public school--does no one else do this in your district? I guess it is good so I don't have to run around and buy stuff but $500 seems steep to me.

We'll see when we get our first note home to pay for something else....Just need to buy backpacks and lunch boxes now.

I'm thinking we're going to go with Land's End and pay a little more now but save in the long run since I'm counting on them to last us a couple years.

We start on August 26th, which I thought was really early.

I'm not sure any store beats Wal-Mart for their inexpensive school supplies.

I posted earlier about buying from Land's End. You can get backpacks and matching lunch boxes for $5 off each and free shipping. The promotion ends today so act soon if you want Land's End. I bought stainless steel thermos and water bottle, backpacks, lunch boxes, and raincoats X 3. I spent a small fortune but most of it was on sale and I got free shipping.

I intend for this stuff to last through 2nd grade and then we'll buy new when they move to the next level (elementary is just K-2nd here, and then central is 3rd-5th).

It feels good to have it done!

I'll need new winter coats and mittens too but we're in the South so I figure I can hold off on that stuff for a little while longer! If anyone sees a sale, please post it!

First post on this forum. Wow!

My boys start officially on Aug. 12. Kindergarten. They are going half days in the afternoon. They have a meet-and-greet with their teacher on Aug. 10. Just three weeks. I can't believe it!

We got our supply list in May when we found out what class they got into. (They only sent me one. I'm glad they are at least smart about that considering the district has no money.) I have not shopped at all yet, but it doesn't seem too bad. I'm not expecting it to be more than $75 for all three. Fingers crossed.

Kristen
