#799, "Carpooling....."

Has anyone else ever tried to carpool.....just feeling lonely as first grade draws near. The neighborhood groups together and carpools (no bussing here). There are 9 first graders in our couple of blocks, but no one wants to take 3. Everyone wants to only drive 1 day/week or one week/month so they want to carpool with 4-5 other people. Dont know quite how to handle this one. I might need to find the silver lining in being the only one going back and forth to to the school everyday. Suggestions?

What type of vehicle do you drive? How many additional children can you handle? Perhaps you can drive more often than the other parents and they can somehow compensate you for your time/effort/gas?

Thanks for the great idea...I'm going to ask around the neighborhood and see what I can do. The school is not far (about 3/4 mile away).

I was also thinking about hiring an older girl (maybe a 5th or 6th grader) to walk with my girls? Has anyone ever tried that?

I drive a 15 passenger van, but we usually leave out the back seat. So that leaves me with 9 seat belts for kids (plus the two front seats).

thanks
Becky

We carpool with a set of twins. We both have minivans and can take each others kids. Works out for all of us.

Great question! I feel like we already are a carpool with my trio in the car. I guess we could take another kid or two but that would mean moving the seats to get them in and out (right now we have the middle seat out so that someone can sit in the back). I guess it will be easier when they don't need booster seats. Anyone carpool with boosters???

I'm lucky enought to carpool with a friend that has extra boosters and I have an extra booster for when I drive her dd. We don't carpool every day but maybe 2x/week, it is enough to help.

Definitely tough with multiples.
