#851, "Deoderant at age 6???"

Hi,

My one daughter is really developing a BO problem. I mean, they play outside at school 3 times a day and I live in Phoenix, so it's 110 out right now. Who wouldn't stink, right??? But, at age six, she is really bad. Not like my other kids. Is it too early to start her on some deo? Is it safe for kids? If I do anything, I would try the crystal natural deo on her. Anyone else had this problem at this young of an age?

Thanks!

A friend of mine had to do this with her 9 year old and she went to the all natural food store. She was able to find an all natural deo.

Oh man. No, I have not had that issue with my girls, poor thing. I recommend you get something sans aluminum. All anti perspiration have it...so go with just a deodorant. I use Melaluca brand and it works great. I bet you could find something at the natural store with tea tree oil in it. Maybe even a dab of perfume under the pits.

My girls started wearing deodorant this year at age 7. I buy regular deodorant and not the anti-perspirant. Don't want to put all that aluminum in them just yet if not needed. It seems to help and they feel like cool kids

Thanks for all the advice. I was concerned with the aluminum but I didn't realize that deodorant didn't have it. I guess I should give it a try.

Thanks!

My one son stinks and he's 7. I'm spraying the t-shirt with body spray.

His sister looked 8 to the Dr at a visit and not 7. She sent her for the hormone blood workup and thryoid blood workup we would go for plus an x-ray. All was fine, but they like to check.

Ask next Dr visit

Off subject here Tracy but where are you in Phx? Our kids are only a month apart in age. Were they born at Good Sam in Phx?

Yes, I was at Good Sam from 2 days before Thanksgiving 2002 until the kids were born in January 2003. I live in Tolleson now. Where are you?

So we were there at the same time. My kids were delivered Christmas Eve. I was at the hospital for 10 days prior to that. We are in North Phoenix just south of Anthem.

We lived at 11th Ave and Union Hills for the first two years after the kids were born. Are you a part of Multiple Joys? Did you go to PPA?

No I do not belong to Multiple Joys. When the kids were 4 months old we moved to CA & lived there until June of last year then moved back to AZ. Yes I went to PPA.

If you want any info on them, let me know. The group used to be more active when my kids were younger. We don't do as much now, but it's nice to connect with other mom's of triplets or more in your area. I am the support coordinator for the group. We have a couple triplet picnics a year and some mom's night's out. There is also a series of "Save Your Sanity" seminars that I used to go to and really enjoyed.

I have noticed my DD has had slight BO a couple of times. But only when she has really done a lot of sweating and missed a shower. I think it's so young, but I have heard from others that it does happen that young in some kids. I just make sure she showers everyday and uses antibacterial soap under her pits! So far that is working for her. I won't use antiperspirant on her at this age.

For your DD I would maybe try the Natural Thai Crystal. I use one and it does work. Doesn't keep your pits dry, but you won't smell.

Thank you. I have found a deoderant that is not an anti-persperant. It's apricot sented and she loves using it. It's so funny seeing her putting it on when she's so little. I will also bring it up at her next doctor's visit, but that won't be until January. Won't make a special trip for this. I think once summer is over, she'll be fine. It's just so stinking (ha ha) hot here in Phoenix!
