#952, "Kindergarten Lunch Question"

I just found out that BOTH of my kids' classes are peanut free!!! One of my boys will only eat peanut butter! What do I do??? I now have to change what he eats and I don't know what I should send. I can send hotdogs, but I don't want to send that everyday.

Thoughts? BTW, he is my pickiest eater, so this is def. a challenge for me.

TIA!

Here are things I put in my kids lunch boxes

Frozen chicken nuggets ( they are thawed out by lunch time)

Rolls of Turkey, Chicken or ham lunch meat

Turkey, Ham or Chicken sandwich (They like those little round thin breads)

mini subs or use slider rolls to make a sandwich

bagel with cream cheese

Salad

Jelly sandwich

Pasta salad

I make my own Lunchables with cheese, crackers, & meat.

Good luck. I know my kids get bored with what I pack. Would love more ideas!

the thermos is your friend! I have, for the first time, started sending:

Mac and cheese
spaghettios
chicken noodle soup
Pasta with butter and parm
leftovers from whatever we had the night before

This gives me so much more range than the typical cold lunch options! My kids are loving lunch.

One of mine LOVES almond butter and soynut butter too.

I would have the same problem if our school was peanut free as my DS9 eats PB 90% of the time.

WalMart sells a soybutter that taste the same as PB! My kids love it. I have a peanut allergic child and when ever our homeschool group has a function that we serve food I always make a tray of soybutter and jelly for the kids. No one has ever been able to tell the difference! The moms know it's peanut free but the kids are clueless. LOL You may want to try it just for his school lunches.

Audrey,

Do you worry about peanut products at your homeschool group? Do the other moms make sure they leave their peanut products at home, or have you taught your allergic child to stay away from it?
