After several unhappy years of marriage, I filed for divorce a few weeks ago. My husband had an affair right after we lost one of our triplets, and I've recently found things that imply that there have been several others. In addition, he's got severe depression and I've believed for a long time he's bipolar. He gambles and spends money excessively. He had threatened to take our daughter and disappear so that I'd never see her again and I've visited a divorce attorney more than once. Finally, I've had enough. I can't live like that anymore.
Even though this was my decision and I feel confident in it, this process is still really difficult; much moreso than I'd anticipated. He's spiteful and vindictive, and that coupled with his bipolar is making me crazy. He threatened suicide the other day and then checked himself into a hospital for it. Because I have close friend who is a lesbian, he's told everyone - my parents, my boss, colleagues, etc - that I'm a lesbian and that's why we're divorcing. He's smearing things all over facebook and it's out of control. I'd been holding it together pretty well until yesterday when things got really bad and then I fell apart. I didn't want it to get so ugly. I've got the kids (he's out of state) and we have a custody mediation hearing Aug 3, but I'm starting to freak out because I don't know what to expect. I know he's going to be as horrible as he can to hurt me and I'm dreading it.

Sorry for going off, I just feel lost and dont' know anyone who has been down this road.

Also, wanted to add...get the book, Still A Family, Good Parenting through divorce...It really helps keep the perspective on the kids and not all the crap that comes with the divorce....
