#42, "Depressed Husband"

Hi there --

I've never posted to this forum before, but here goes...

My husband of 4 years is depressed as he lost his job a while back and is close to being at the end of the unemployment payments. He sleeps alot on the weekends and when he wakes up he leaves...it is taking a strain on the marriage. I don't have much help on the weekends. I work during the week, so we do have one income, but it is more the emotional toll that it's taking than the financial. Also the lack of help from him is taking it's toll on me. Our triplets are 14 months old.

Otherwise he is a pretty good daddy. Typical dude, though, he thinks he is doing 50% of the housework and parent duties when it is close to 10%, maybe.

I just read your post. Men, are such babies, I swear. They can't deal. Sorry your dh is causing such a strain. I hope he figures it out. Anyway I wanted to tell you that my triplets were born in Dec 07 so they are around the same age as yours. I used to get way more responses here on TC but I had to use a different username because of my psycho stalker dh. He had his attorney bring up my posts in our protective order case. I wonder if he is reading this? Uggggg. Life is crazy. Don't you wish for one minute you could be the weak one??? ((((HUGS))))

hi

dont take too hard..i think husbands are all the same.

can you talk to him..share out the tasks as to what you want his help. He can be the home husband..and be supportive too. do not expect dh to figure out how to share. go to him, tell him you need him.

get your 14mth olds to wake him up in the morning, to always include him in everything.

help him surf the net to get all the motivational phrases, let him see the disabled ones..he will soon notice how fortunate he is. At least he still have a roof over him. he has legs to walk, hands etc.

Good luck.

Hi,

I'm sorry you are in such a tough spot. Is there any church or community counseling available. Our small town has job counseling...and even though he may have gone a while back, sometimes going a second time helps renew people. I have also seen some people do better if they have a "temporary job" while they look for the big one...sort of like an actor or actress waiting for their big break. It gets them out of the house, even if only for a small paycheck, and also gets them contacts that might introduce them to someone who can get them a job.

Hope things turn around for you soon.

Susan
