#38, "Brady's Make you Crazy???"

My boys are 25 days old (31w 4d) and are successfully eating from bottles. They got their NG tubes out. They're out of their isolettes. They're almost 4 1/2 lbs. They will be 35 weeks next Monday. Their issue is the Brady's!!! It's so annoying b/c they only have 1 or 2 a day. They're not bad enough to be put on caffeine. So now I'm waiting for them to stop so they can come home. Will they ever stop? (My pedi told me they won't be sent home on monitors...too many issues or something).

They made me crazy too! It is so frustrating. FWIW...all 4 of mine were send home on monitors and I was told they didn't send babies home on monitors.

Yes, they drove me nuts as well. Mine were born at 30 weeks and 2 stayed for 8 weeks and one stayed for 11 weeks. The two that stayed for 8 weeks were for other issues other then just brady's. The one that stayed for 11 weeks could have came home at 5 weeks but she would have a brady every 4 days and she had to be brady free for 5 days. When we finally brought her home she continued to have them for months. We watched her really close and told her doctors every time. We finally got them to listen to us and they are trying to figure it out because it is only when she eats. She has not had one now for 6 months and she is 13 months old. It does get better hang in there.

Yes, they will stop and hopefully really soon, Renee! It is so frustrating when your babies are otherwise ready to go home. Ours were all supposed to be discharged together and then Mr. Camden had a Brady a day prior to discharge. So he got to spend another seven days alone in the NICU. So sad to have had him there and the other two home. Good luck!!!

Frustrating I know. Chris had a spontaneous (non feeding!) brady two days prior to his release. It made me very nervous, but they insisted the boys would be fine. I insisted on monitors. I know it's hard now, but be thankful for a strict NICU in that regard. If they're doing that, they either need NICU or a monitor. Hang in there...they will be out before you know it.
