#8, "any future grandmother of triplets out there?"

My daughter is 10 weeks pregnant with triplets and I could sure use some input on what works, what dosn't work, and how lives have been changed. My daughter is going for one more ultrasound before she will be referred to a specialist. there is still a possiblility of one twin disappearing

I am not sure in what areas you would like to know what works and what doesn't - My daughter delivered her boys at 31w1d. She was off and on bedrest, with several weeks in the hospital. She was allowed 1/2 hour of wheelchair time so my son-in-law and I alternated days of who would take her for her ride. Until then, I helped with some basic housecleaning when needed, organized/returned her shower gifts, did some work on setting up the nursery for them. I was also the 'contact' person from our church for meals.

After they were born, she gave us unlimited NICU contact so I normally would go a different time than they did. They were there about 5-6 weeks and when they came home, I would help at her by sorting laundry, unloading dishwasher, sweeping, etc. I would also help with feeding the boys but she also allowed people from church to come and help and they had a sign-up sheet for that. They took them to church from the time they were about 8 weeks old.

I always tried to maintain the schedule that they used. There were only two times that I offered my opinion. She was much more relaxed about germs, etc. than I was. She was just very natural with them.
The hardest thing for me to get used to was the grunting they did!

Today they are almost 5. They have another biological grandma and one of the ladies who came from church to help during feedings has continued to be a part of their lives. We often alternate taking one of the boys. My daughter and her husband have always taken time for dates - even the first week the boys came home. My daughter is a SAHM and her husband gets to travel for classes and his hobby. I try to do special things for her - took her to a lodge for a few days earlier this year. Also I will sometimes ask her if she wants to go to the zoo, etc., and I will go with them for 'crowd control'. She has never been afraid to take them out on her own, and does several times a week, but sometimes it is fun to hang out with them!

thanks for all the great advice. Anything is helpful right now. It's probably just the initial worry of how our lives will change. My main concern is how things will work when the babies come home. Did you stay over night, or who helped with feedings. the other grandma and I were thinking that we'll trade off week by week staying over night. My other daughter had a baby last December and lack of sleep seemed to be the main complaint. thank you again for your input and I'll keep you posted!

I was concerned too! I did not stay overnight. Really, they did the majority themselves. We had a sign-up at church and if anyone wanted to come and help with a feeding, they signed up. My son-in-law took the two later night feedings and my daughter would take the early morning ones. I am sure she got tired, but she really never complained much about anything. I kept telling her she would need all this help and quite frankly, she did great. It kind of shocked me because she was always more intense than I was and kept the house extremely clean, etc. She was always very scheduled though because we had foster kids when she was growing up and we had to maintain a tight schedule. I chuckle to see her keeping the same schedule with her boys that we kept when she was a little girl..... One word of caution - don't buy a bunch of preemie stuff. I did and it was crazy. Even at 31 w, the biggest was 4.12 and they simply did not wear them enough. (They were large for as early as they came) Diapers are great though!

I'm a mom of triplets, but I wanted to share what our moms did that was really helpful. One mom came Tuesday and spent the night and stayed Wednesday every week and the other mom came Thursday and stayed through Friday. My husband had weekends and Mondays off so I had help every day until my girls were about 4 months old. Then people came when they could intermittently. We had help from church and other friends helping, too, but the grandmas were the best and coming and getting the house clean and helping at night so we could get some rest. Just an idea instead of staying a whole week at a time. If you guys could work out just one or two nights at a time you'll be more rested and you might be able to extend how long you can help.

I see your message is a couple months back & I hope all is well with your daughter. My daughter is also pregnant with triplets and is now about 17 weeks along. We have had so many ultra sounds! We are currently trying to find out what is the best stroller option for three; how to get out to the car; etc. It just seems a little crazy that there are so many seats. My daughter likes the Britax car seat as it can be used backwards, and then turned around later on. The stroller is the thing that has us perpexled. Like the runabout, but it doesn't look infant friendly. Too bad they don't make a good pram for triplets that is cost effective. It is still early, but we are asking all kinds of questions and trying to figure it all out. Our whole family is pretty excited and praying for a good outcome.

My daughter really wanted a paticulat stroller made in australia. I'll have to get the name of it but it has one baby on the bottom and two on top. the engineering of it is fantastic and it can accommidate up to toddler. I'll let you know by the end of the day.
